Biography

Laureate of the State Prizes of the Russian Federation.

In 1986, he graduated from the Saratov Theatre School. In 1990, after graduating from the Moscow Art Theatre School-Studio (class of O. Tabakov), he was accepted into the Moscow Theatre-Studio under the direction of Tabakov, where he performed in such productions as "An Ordinary Story" (Alexander Aduev), "Candle in the Wind" (David Schwartz), "Local Time's Finest Hour" (Kolya), "Anecdotes" (Lebeziatnikov, Khomutov), "And Another Van Gogh..." (Sasha). He participated in famous theatre projects by directors P. Stein ("Hamlet" as Hamlet, and "The Oresteia" as Orestes), D. Donnellan ("Boris Godunov" as the Pretender), V. Fokin ("The Karamazovs and Hell" as Ivan), and E. Nekrošius ("The Cherry Orchard" as Lopakhin). At the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre, he played Treplev ("The Seagull"), George Pigden ("No. 13"), and Porfiry Golovlev ("The Golovlyov Family"). At the Moscow Theatre-Studio under Tabakov, he played the lead role (Bumbarash) in V. Mashkov's production "The Passion of Bumbarash". In 2006, he founded the "Evgeny Mironov Theatre Company" and produced the play "Figaro" directed by K. Serebrennikov, in which he also played the title role.

One of the leading actors of contemporary cinema. His screen roles include performances in films by A. Kaidanovsky ("The Kerosene Man's Wife"), V. Todorovsky ("Love"), P. Todorovsky ("Encore, Once More Encore!"), N. Mikhalkov ("Burnt by the Sun" and "Burnt by the Sun 2"), V. Khotinenko ("The Muslim"), A. Uchitel ("His Wife's Diary" and "Space as a Premonition"), M. Ptashuk ("In August of 1944"), V. Fokin ("The Metamorphosis"), A. Konchalovsky ("House of Fools"), E. Konchalovsky ("The Escape"), K. Khudyakov ("On Upper Maslovka"), E. Khazanova ("Piranha Hunt" and "The Petrov Syndrome"), D. Kiselyov ("The Spacewalker"). He played leading roles in television series such as V. Bortko's "The Idiot" (based on Dostoevsky's novel), G. Panfilov's "The First Circle" (based on Solzhenitsyn's novel), "The Apostle", A. Kott's "Diamond Hunters", V. Khotinenko's "Dostoevsky", and V. Perelman's "Ashes".

Since December 2006 – Artistic Director of the State Theatre of Nations.

Three times awarded the National Theatre Prize "Golden Mask" in the category "Best Male Role" – for "The Golovlyov Family" (2007), "Shukshin's Stories" (2010), and "Caligula" (2012). Laureate of the "Crystal Turandot" theatre prize for "Best Male Role" in the productions "No. 13" (2001), "The Golovlyov Family" (2006), and "Shukshin's Stories" (2009). Recipient of the International Stanislavsky Prize, the Grand Prix of the Geneva International Film Festival, as well as the "Nika", "Kinotavr", "Idol", "Constellation", "Baltic Pearl", "Triumph" awards, the "Arguments and Facts" newspaper prize – "National Pride of Russia" (2004) in the category "For Personal Contribution to the Development of Culture", and many others.

Co-founder of the "Artist" Foundation for the Support of Performing Artists (2008). Artistic Director of the film studio "Third Rome". Member of the Council for Culture and Arts under the President of the Russian Federation.
